Progress of an international research project on climate change


On February 21, 2023, the Pre-Final Meeting of the international research project »Promoting Teacher Education for Climate Change Education through Collaboration between Asian Centers of Excellence on Education for Sustainable Development» was held.


This international joint research project focuses on climate change within the framework of sustainable development and the development of an «Asian Framework of Teacher Education Program for Climate Change Education» to disseminate best practices in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) through the collaboration of Asian centers of excellence.


The meeting was held online and was attended by professors, students from member institutions, as well as representatives of cooperating universities from nine Asian countries - China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, the Philippines, and Thailand, as well as partner institutions in Europe.


The purpose of the meeting is to share the development, implementation, and evaluation of ongoing teacher education programs for climate change education at each institution.


During the meeting, the research group of the Institute for Natural Science and Geography under the direction of the director Kulyas Kaimuldinova jointly with the Department for International Engagement made a report on the implementation of disciplines on climate change into curricula of educational programs, on implementation of SDGs themes in courses, as well as on activities on Sustainable Development Goals, such as organization of the International Youth Forum, round tables with scientists from Uzbekistan and lectures of visiting professor from International Center for Green Technologies and Investment Projects (Astana, Kazakhstan) in 2022.


The meeting was held at a high level. The final meeting will take place in Indonesia, where an « Asian Framework of Teacher Education Program for Climate Change Education» and guidelines for its dissemination based on the experiences of all institutions will be developed.
