Women`s contribution and role in society during the pandemic

On March 5, 2021, the UNESCO Department of Educational Science and Teacher Training at Abai KazNPU held a webinar «The female / non-female face of the pandemic». The Vice-Rector for Science and Digitalization, Professor Sakhiyev Sayabek delivered a welcoming speech. He congratulated the speakers and participants of the webinar on the upcoming holiday of March 8 and highlighted the special role of women in society during the pandemic.

The speaker of the webinar, Uskembayeva Margarita - President of the public Foundation «Institute of Equal Rights and Equal Opportunities of Kazakhstan», spoke about the work of the foundation, about gender equality, about practices and challenges.

Zamza Kodar - a member of the Expert Council of the National Commission on Women`s Affairs and Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Head of the Department «Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan» of the Almaty Technological University made a report on the topic «The pandemic does not have a female face». She shared her experience as a practicing psychologist, and noted how much the pandemic inspires fear.

Shakirova Svetlana - Head of the scientific and publishing department of Kazakh National Women`s Teacher Training University gave good recommendations to all scientists and teaching staff on publications in international rating journals. According to the speaker, everyone can apply and write to magazines directly to get a positive response from them, by passing paid publishers.

With the report « Gender education:prospects of development» Shedenova Nazym - Associate Professor of the Department of Sociology and Social Work of al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Director of the Center for Gender Education of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and spoke about the gender courses and the research work carried out by the center.

Kabakova Maira - Professor of the Department of General and Applied Psychology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University made a report «The Family Institute in Kazakhstan: current state and problems». In the report, Maira Pobedovna showed the most pressing problems of society at the moment. She also focused on domestic violence. She told about a free consultation for women who need help.

The report «Women are the guarantor of the family» was made by Zhanbyrbayeva Sara - judge of the Zhambyl district Court of Almaty region. Sara Muratovna focused on the specifics of her work and noted the increased number of divorces during the pandemic.

Speakers Kabidenova Zhuldyz - Associate Professor of Toraighyrov University and Tanabayeva Anar - head of the UNESCO Department of Educational Science and Teacher Training of Abai University. They told about the socio - cultural significance of money in family and marriage relations. The speakers conducted a sociological survey in several regions of Kazakhstan and identified the specifics of the importance of financial means in society.

Speaker Khamzina Zhanna - Research Professor of the Department of Jurisprudence of Abai University made a report on «Issues of gender equality in labor and social security of legal relations».

Participants of the event listened with interest and discussed the speakers`reports and asked questions.

At the end of the webinar, Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and Internationalization, Professor Aktolkyn Kulsarieva congratulated all the speakers and participants on the International Women`s Day and wished them creative success in their work.

At the end of the webinar, the speakers agreed to work together to improve the status of women in society.
