Rector`s meeting with students: openness and accessibility

On September 16, 2019, the traditional meeting of the rector Takir Balykbayev with students took place at the Abai KazNPU. The meeting was attended by Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Asan Satmurzaev and directors of all institutes.

The main purpose of the event is to inform about the work done and plans for the new academic year, to ensure open communication between students and the university management, about the availability of the administration for faculty and students.

During the meeting, Rector Takir Balykbayev spoke in detail about the achievements of the university for the 2018/2019 academic year and about the tasks for implementing the strategic plan for the development of the university until 2025.

«This year, the number of students has reached 10,460 students. The main goal of our strategic plan until 2025 was to reach the number of students up to at least 10,000, two years ago it was 7,000. If the student population reaches 10-12,000, this is an effective indicator for our university, which means that financial opportunities our university`s infrastructure will also improve and provide a better education. And if the number of foreign students reaches 450, this is also a good indicator that determines our recognition and level in the world market», said the head of the university.

The rector invited all undergraduate students to continue their studies in the educational program of the magistracy and doctoral programs, noting that the state creates all opportunities for this. «For our part, we guarantee that we will support everyone who wants to continue their studies. Due to the lack of teaching experience of university graduates, we have extended the internship for 4th year students. Our faculty will be sent to schools in the city to exchange experiences. In the new academic year, the age categories of teaching staff were updated, young specialists were hired at our university, including 42 masters and 24 doctoral students», T. Balykbaуev noted.

At the meeting, various issues were discussed, concerning not only the university`s internal policy, but also affecting the everyday aspects of student life, about changes in educational programs, about cooperation with employers, about the introduction of all principles of the credit system for the next academic year, modernization of internal infrastructure, etc. It was said about the construction work carried out in educational buildings and dormitories.

The rector of the university listened attentively to the students, and answered every question asked in an accessible and detailed way. One of the most important results of the meeting was the understanding that students would not be left face to face with their problems. Takir Balykbaуev emphasized that he personally and other university leaders will strengthen all types of communications with the public. So, the rector of the university regularly conducts reception of citizens on all issues, personally considers appeals to his blog and mail, communicates in the Openspace format, and maintains personal accounts on social networks. For all appeals, appropriate measures are taken, control over their implementation is ensured.

This meeting was very productive. Many questions were asked, a number of suggestions were made to discuss them to improve all aspects of student life.
