Professor of Abai University started studying the military history of the western region of Kazakhstan

Under the leadership of Professor Bolat Zhumagulov, historians of Abai KazNPU have started to implement a scientific project based on the grant funding of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2023-2025 years RNN AR19679667 "Military history of the western region of Kazakhstan XVIII-XX centuries" (contract No. 352/23-25 dated 3 August 2023).

The main idea of the project is to create, within the framework of the programme "Archive-2025", dedicated to the study of archival materials, a single work that contains the military history of the western regions of Kazakhstan in all directions, covering from the XVIII century to the XX century. In-depth study of unexplored fragments of the history of Kazakhstan and Russia makes it possible to create a unique monograph that will contain the military history of the western regions of Kazakhstan, which currently has no analogues.

The aim of this project:

- Identification and study of new sources and materials on the military history of the western regions of Kazakhstan;

- Conducting a census of previously published historical data, archival documents in order to determine the degree of study of the problem and analyse scientific research on this issue with a historical review;

- Studying the history of national liberation movements in the western region of Kazakhstan in the complex historical continuity against the invasion of the Russian Empire in the specified period;

- To reveal unknown pages of the history of the Small Zhuz struggle for independence, i.e. the military history of the region;

- To study the history of creation, structure, functions and tasks of military formations of western regions of Kazakhstan in XVIII-XX centuries; especially to pay attention to the importance of western regions of Kazakhstan as the main place of most uprisings during the Russian Empire, the main front line during the Civil War and the only frontline region of Kazakhstan, where during the World War II as the rear of not only the Battle of Stalingrad, but on all fronts were located important military factories, warehouses with food and ammunition, hospitals;

- To analyse the mobilisation work carried out by local military authorities, the implementation of conscription, enlistment and registration of citizens during the war and sending them to the Red Army during the Civil War, the Great Patriotic War and the Soviet Army during the Afghan War.

The main outcome of the project is:

Publication of articles in at least two (2) ranked journals or reviews in a peer-reviewed scientific publication: indexed in Social Science Citation Index, (or) Arts and Humanities Citation Index and (or) Russian Science Citation Index of Web of Science base and (or) having a CiteScore percentile in Scopus base of at least 35 (thirty-five);

- as well as at least 2 (two) articles and (or) reviews in peer-reviewed foreign and (or) domestic publications recommended by the Committee for Quality Assurance in the Sphere of Education of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

- Preparation and publication of a special monographic work "Military History of the Western Regions of Kazakhstan in the XVIII-XX centuries";

This year under the leadership of Bolat Zhumagulov at the Institute of History and Ethnology named after Ch.Ch.Valikhanov with the financial support of the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology under the financial support of the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan was implemented the project "History of Atyrau region from ancient times to the present day" in 3 volumes (RNN AR09259623), for the first time in the country within the grant project monograph on the history of the region published in three languages (Kazakh, Russian, English).

It should also be noted that Professor Zhumagulov B.S. became the winner of the contest "The best teacher of the university-2023".
