Meeting of the Rector of Abai University with students

On February 18, 2022, a meeting of Chairman of the Board - Rector of Abai KazNPU Darkhan Bilyalov with the students-activists and members of the youth committee of the university was held in the format of Town Hall. The event was attended by Shyngys Nurlanov, Vice-Rector for Social Development, and Khairulla Zhanbekov, Director of the Academic Affairs Department.

The meeting took place in an online and offline format. Due to quarantine measures more than 200 students participated through the ZOOM platform.

Darkhan Bilyalov noted the importance of such meetings, especially with student activists, who are the backbone of the university and institute management in the work of upbringing and development of students.

«Today we visited the dormitories to find out the living conditions of students. I would like to note that we assess the results of the work we do at the university through the prism of the students. Therefore, in the future we are ready to meet more often and listen to all your questions and suggestions», the Rector said.

Addressing students`questions, the head of Abai University highlighted the capabilities of modern students in mastering technologies in the field of education and spoke about the features of the platforms used in the educational process. The issues of providing infrastructure and technical learning devices of the university are being solved step by step, for the complete solution the means and time are required. Academic processes have priority.

Darkhan Bilyalov reminded students of the role and status of the teacher. «Today, the importance of a teacher`s work and his/her responsibility before the country and the younger generation has increased considerably. Therefore, you have to master new knowledge and skills, continuously improve them. This is necessary for you, too. As future teachers the students should already be able to set themselves the task of increasing their professional responsibility», the Rector emphasized.

Shyngys Nurlanov, answering questions on the dormitories, spoke about one of the planned projects to improve the quality of education at the university. This is a project Honors College, which is used in many universities around the world. The aim of the project is to give students majoring in pedagogy more in-depth knowledge and skills. To create a pool of gifted youth to provide them with certificate training programs in areas such as emotional intelligence, criterion-based assessment, development of research skills in students, especially in specialised schools (NIS, RFMS, BIL, BINOM, etc.). «Since we are a pedagogical university, our strongest students will be sent to specialised schools for internships. For this, we will develop new innovative educational programs and improve the knowledge of students», the Vice-Chancellor said.

Khairulla Zhanbekov answered in detail to frequently asked questions regarding the educational process and the format of education, translation, and academic mobility.

The Town Hall meeting involves informal communication. Town Hall participants tend to express their ideas and opinions and ask questions. Thanks to such meetings, a growing number of students, teaching staff and employees can form their opinions on the current issues facing the university.

At the end of the meeting, Rector Darkhan Bilyalov discussed the students` questions and suggestions and gave specific instructions to those in charge, assuring that the solution to the problems voiced would be under control.
