II International Student Competition named after Professor T.K. Ospanov

II International student competition of region-oriented mathematical problems for primary schoolchildren named after Professor Ospanov Tolegen Karazhanovich was hosted by the Department of Professional Training, educational program «Primary Education» of the Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology. It was an online competition, which was announced on October 15, 2021. Deadline for competitive works acquisition was November 15, 2021. Competition results were finalized and published on November 25, 2021. Best participants were honored with competition diplomas.

Competition Goals and Objectives:
- Promotion of students` embrace of traditions, culture and history of their native land.
- Development of scientific research, area studies and ethnographic activity when creating region oriented mathematical problems.
- Foster a patriotic attitude towards their home area and respect for its historical and cultural heritage, responsibility for its future.
- Identification, development and support of students with aptitude and ability for the methodology of mathematics and its study.
- Motivate students for educational and methodological activities.

55 competition works were received from 9 universities of Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Students prepared narrative mathematical problems, which theory contained the local area material offering insights to the historical, cultural, climatic, geographical and socio-economic characteristics of their native land. The competition`s condition was the adherence of mathematical problem`s content to the mathematics course curriculum of the primary school. Students independently chose the structure and the type of the problem. Based on the problem type, the participants formalized the solutions by means of calculations with an explanation and equation with an explanation, they also used diagrams, drawings, etc.
