International Workshop «Higher Education for Sustainable Development»

On 31 October, 2018, the chair of «Geography, Ecology and Tourism» held an international workshop «Higher Education for Sustainable Development». The purpose of the seminar is to discuss the implementation of the UN sustainable development goals in shaping the environmental outlook of students in universities.

Main tasks:

1.Organize a discussion of the problems of implementing education for sustainable development (ESD), sustainable development goals (SDG) in universities in Kazakhstan.
2.Discuss proposals on possible areas of joint activities with the UN office on the application and development of tools to promote ESD and SDG in universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
3. Exchange experience on the use of new educational methods in the implementation of the SDG in ESD, the various components of SD (economic, environmental and social) and develop proposals for its achievement. The participants of the seminar are: Representatives of the UN, UNESCO, Heads and instructors of leading universities of Almaty, dealing with the problem of ESD and the SDG.

At the seminar, participants are familiarized with the problems and achievements of the SDG in ESD in the universities of Almaty: Narhoz, AlmaU, IITU, KNU and Abai KazNPU. The proposals of joint activities and creation of working platforms for the implementation of green energy ideas in the universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan and on the promotion of the SDG in ESD were discussed. The participants of the seminar established contacts with a view to further creative and fruitful cooperation in achieving the SDG in ESD in the universities of Kazakhstan.
