Quest training for students

On November 22, 2024, senior lecturer of the Department of Primary Education at the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology of Abai KazNPU, Gulnaz Sarsenbayeva, conducted an open lesson with second-year students of the "Primary Education in English" specialty on the topic "Developing Intrapersonal and Interpersonal Skills of Students Through National Values." The practical lesson, part of the course "Key Theories of Primary Education," was organized in the format of a quest-training.

This course is a new subject introduced within the framework of the Finnish education system at the university. It covers key global and national theories of primary education, such as behaviorism, cognitivism, constructivism, humanism, and connectivism, among others.

At the beginning of the lesson, students answered test questions prepared in English on the platform quizziz.com to activate their knowledge of previous topics.

The lesson aimed not only to develop students` academic professional skills while maintaining intra-disciplinary and interdisciplinary connections but also to enhance their metadisciplinary and transversal skills. To achieve this, the instructor chose the quest-training format, linking the topic "Intrapersonal and Interpersonal Skills" from the educational-methodical complex with pressing issues of preparing future teachers based on national values. The lesson was conducted in continuity with other courses in the program and previous topics of this subject.

Artificial intelligence tools were effectively utilized in the practical lesson to design the tasks. For example, the training was developed in the format of a narrative quest using AI, featuring Abai`s "Words of Edification" and video excerpts from the film "My Name is Kozha", translated into English. The lesson incorporated emotional, cognitive, and social aspects, emphasizing the role of national values such as patience, cooperation, and conflict resolution in developing intrapersonal and interpersonal skills.

Students participated actively and consciously in the lesson, demonstrating high levels of interest and completing tasks on the voicegenerator.io platform. Their creative efforts were evident, providing opportunities to enhance teamwork skills. The evaluation process was conducted using criteria to ensure objectivity and validity. Feedback «3i» was facilitated through a digital platform, allowing students to reflect on their achievement of the lesson`s objectives.
