Formation and development of a risk management culture

Abai KazNPU continues to implement advanced management methods, which, in modern conditions, contribute to increased competitiveness and sustainability, continuous improvement, and effective decision-making.

Risk management and minimization are important aspects of the university`s activities. The Strategy Department organized training in accordance with the international standard ISO 31000-2018 "Risk Management" to enhance the culture of risk management and risk management in key processes. Guidelines". 

The event was attended by members of the Management Board, the Risk Management Committee, heads of faculties, and key specialists of structural divisions. The course was taught by an experienced risk management coach, Yevgeniy Litvinov, whose extensive knowledge and experience provided a deep and comprehensive understanding of the topic for the participants. 

The course covered the requirements of international standards in the risk area: ISO 31000:2018, IEC 31010:2019, and the COSO ERM and COSO IC IF models; issues of improving the effectiveness of corporate governance and internal control; the management process; and methods of risk assessment based on a process approach.

The participants analyzed in detail the process of determining the environment for the occurrence of risks, methods of identifying risks and forming their register, risk assessment methods, analysis, and ways to respond to risks. Important attention was paid to the processes of risk awareness, communication, monitoring, documentation, and reporting.

Typical corporate mistakes in risk management and ways to correct them, as well as methods of countering "mental traps," were also analyzed. To consolidate theoretical knowledge, the participants examined academic and HR processes with risk identification and analysis in an interactive format. In addition to qualitative analysis, the focus is on quantitative assessment, responsibility, and authority within risk management, as well as automation and risk management records.

The participants who successfully completed the training received certificates. Тhe course allowed participants to acquire relevant knowledge and skills that will help bring risk management at the university to a new level, improve the corporate culture of risk management, make risk management a part of daily work, and make risk-based management decisions.
