Seminar "Problems and prospects for ensuring the biological safety of Kazakhstan" April 9, 2024 at the Institute of Natural Science and Geography, Department of Biology of the Kazakh National Pedagogical University named after Abai, within the framework of the Decade of Science under the leadership of Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor D.K. Aidarbaeva. and Master of Biology Taldybay A.A. a scientific seminar was held on the topic "Problems and prospects for ensuring the biological safety of Kazakhstan" for students and undergraduates. Guests of the seminar: General Director of the Institute of Botany and Phytointroduction, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Academician Sitpaeva G.T. and head of the laboratory of the "Genetic Seed Bank", Candidate of Biological Sciences Murtazaeva T.Sh. Tansara Shayakhmetovnamade a report on the topic "Seed bank of the flora of Kazakhstan" and gave students useful scientific information. The seed bank was opened in 2013.Development of breeding programs requires knowledge of genetic diversity and sustainable access to this diversity. In this regard, the progressive scientific community recognizes the importance of collecting, studying and using genetic diversity for scientific and breeding purposes, as well as the need to preserve this diversity. The decline in the world`s plant genetic resources poses a threat to the food security of the entire Earth. Preservation of the gene pool of wild relatives of cultivated plants, in particular, is extremely important for solving environmental problems that humanity faces today or will arise in the future.Collections of the world`s plant genetic resources are a powerful strategic basis for ensuring food, bioresource and environmental security of countries. According to the 16th International Botanical Congress, approximately a third of the higher flowering plants existing on the planet may disappear by the middle of the 21st century. Development of breeding programs requires knowledge of genetic diversity and sustainable access to this diversity. In this regard, the progressive scientific community recognizes the importance of collecting, studying and using genetic diversity for scientific and breeding purposes, as well as the need to preserve this diversity. The book "Seed Atlas of Plants of the Almaty Region", recently published at the Institute of Botany and Phytointroduction, was presented to students and donated to the department. The meeting was very interesting and informative and had very high environmental value.
