International Scientific and Practical Conference «Green Universities: experience, prospects in the context of sustainable development»

On November 25, 2021, the Institute of Natural Sciences and Geography of Abai KazNPU hosted an international scientific and practical conference «Green Universities: experience, prospects in the context of sustainable development» dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan`s independence.

The official part of the plenary session of the event was opened with a welcoming speech by the Chairman of the Board - Rector of Abai KazNPU D.N. Bilyalov and Director of the Institute of Natural Science and Geography of Abai KazNPU, Professor K.D. Kaimuldinova. The head of the university emphasized that the Abai KazNPU with its 93-year unique history is the first higher educational institution in the country and it was the Abai KazNPU that stood at the origins of environmental education in Kazakhstan. Our scientists, headed by Academician of NAS RK A.S. Beisenova prepared the first Concept of environmental education and upbringing in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Our university supports the idea of UNESCO and builds its scientific, educational and economic activities in accordance with the principles of Sustainable Development.

Professor K.D. Kaimuldinova acquainted the conference participants with the invited guests, the trends in the development of environmental education at the university and noted its strategic directions in the future. And also, the director of the Center for the Promotion of Education for Sustainable Development at Okayama University (Okayama, Japan), Professor Hiroki Fuji took part in this event and wished success in the conference.

Deputy of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, member of the Committee on Ecology and Nature Management, Ph.D. Skakova A.A. spoke about some of the problems of the process and program of environmental education of the university and prospects in the context of sustainable development, expressed her opinion about the need for an organized event.

Head of the Office of Scientific and Technological Development and Scientific and Technical Council of NJSC «International Center for Green Technologies and Investment Projects», G.A. Medieva presented a report on the importance and role of environmental education for the sustainable development of society.

The plenary session was closed by moderators - professors of Abai KazNPU, Dzhusupova D.B. and Bakirova K.Sh.

In the official part of the conference, a Memorandum was signed between the Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University and the International Center for Green Technologies and Investment Projects. In the future, within the framework of this Memorandum, students of the university and teaching staff have the opportunity to exchange experiences and participate in investment projects based on international green technologies. Obviously, this opportunity will serve as a motivation for mastering modern technologies and increasing the research potential of our university in the future.
